Inflation holds steady for third month

THE headline rate of inflation remained static at 2.7% in December, new figures revealed this morning.

The government said the largest pressure on prices came from higher energy bills.

The comsumer prices index (CPI) rate of inflation has now been at the same rate for three months.

Air fares provided the largest downward pressure, with prices rising at a far slower rate than a year ago.

The broader RPI measure increased from 3% in November to 3.1%.
