Senior management changes for Garbutt & Elliott

CHARTERED accountancy firm Garbutt & Elliott has appointed a chairman and new managing director.
David Dickson will pass on the reigns of managing director to Russell Turner as he becomes chairman of the board at the York and Leeds-based company.
Over the past seven years, in his capacity as managing director, Mr Dickson has helped to guide Garbutt & Elliott through a growth phase, including the retirement of several senior partners, relocating offices, and setting up the firm’s G&E Wealth Management.
As Chairman of Garbutt & Elliott, Mr Dickson will remain on the board of organisations such as Science City York, York Business Development and Medipex.
He is also treasurer of the University of York and with the planned £500m expansion of the campus he will also commit time to this role.
Mr Turner has become Garbutt & Elliott’s new managing director with immediate effect. He joined the company from Grant Thornton in 1999.
His specialism is acting as lead adviser on the purchase and disposal of businesses, including fund raising and restructuring companies and groups.
Mr Dickson said: “Russell is a highly respected director in the firm who l know has the skills, motivation and determination to drive Garbutt & Elliott forward.
“I would like to thank all the staff and clients for the dedication and commitment they have shown to the firm over the last few years. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time as managing director and I look forward to my new role as chairman.”
Mr Turner added: “Garbutt & Elliott is an ambitious firm and, under the current economic climate, the next phase of our growth will clearly be challenging.
“However, it’s during economic uncertainty that most businesses recognise the benefits of using a firm that have specialist advisors capable of minimising their tax and improving profitability. We have a very strong team of business and tax advisers at G&E and so I’m looking forward to the challenge and the exciting times that lie ahead.“
