Exports on horizon for Texere Yarns

TEXERE Yarns, which has been trading as a yarn warehouse in Bradford since the 1970s, is expanding.

Following support from Bradford Council the company, based in the city’s Little Germany district, is looking to export into emerging markets and has applied for the Business Growth Scheme.

The Business Growth Scheme is part of Bradford’s City Centre Growth Zone, a £35m initiative supported by Bradford Council and the Government’s Regional Growth Fund.

Eligible businesses located in the City Centre Growth Zone can apply for a business rate rebate providing they are taking on new staff.

Texere Yarns has kept its manufacturing, warehouse and distribution facility open in Bradford despite the fact that the yarn and wool industry has steadily declined during that time.

The firm manages a warehouse mill outlet which is open to the public for part of the week, but the main thrust of the business is online.

The company is looking to improve this service thanks to the two new posts being created with the support of the Business Growth Scheme which will also support reorganising its premises to enable it to pack and deliver orders more quickly.

Managing director Guy Richardson said: “Bradford Council’s Economic Development Service through their business adviser Satnam Khela was extremely helpful in analysing our business and putting together a plan for growth.

“They have helped us to see how we can make greater inroads into the lucrative international market.”

Coun David Green, Bradford Council’s leader, added: “I’m really pleased we’ve been able to help a textile company that is bucking the trend and still growing and taking on staff despite the economic trials the industry has endured over the years.”
