Fashion retailer aims high with Pinnacle

FASHION and lifestyle retailer JOY is to open its flagship store at the Pinnacle building in Leeds.

It has signed for 11,000 sq ft of retail space at 63-65 Albion Street, which forms part of the Pinnacle building, as it prepares for its opening at the end of the month.

JOY is relocating from The Light to Albion Street which sees an average weekly footfall of 140,000 each week.

Maureen O’Brien, managing director at JOY, said: “After a happy and enjoyable eight years at The Light, we are thrilled to have found this opportunity to move to a much larger retail environment where we can continue to stimulate our loyal Leeds customer base.”

Mark Holmes from Moorfield, from the joint venture between Moorfield Group and Holbeck Land responsible for the Pinnacle, said: “We are delighted that JOY will be opening their flagship store on Albion Street Leeds. Their presence will complement our already strong retail and leisure mix and reconfirms that our prime retail units along Albion Street and Bond Street are the retailer’s location of choice.”

Freddie Coupe, director from Holbeck Land, added: “JOY’s desire to open on Albion Street and with a substantially increased footprint speaks volumes for the new retailer confidence in Leeds. The opening of Trinity has been an important catalyst but there is more to come with the 13,500 seater Arena bringing more consumers into Leeds, regularly, from September 2013.”

The retail unit on Albion Street was let by Savills and Barker Proudlove, whilst Pudney Shuttleworth acted for JOY.

Pinnacle Leeds is a mixed use scheme which comprises 64,000 sq ft retail space with high street frontages to Bond Street and Albion Street, 76,000 sq ft of commercial space and a 440 space multi-storey car park managed by Q Park.

West Riding House was acquired by Moorfield Group in 2011 and together with Holbeck Land an extensive £6m refurbishment of the 20-storey structure was carried out.

The 150,000 sq ft building, constructed 40 years ago, was renamed Pinnacle following the launch of the contemporary fit-out.
