Award success brought ‘personal highlight’ for KC

IT may be renowned for its innovative broadband service, phone and IT focus in East Yorkshire, but KC’s community programme triumphed in last year’s Yorkshire Business Masters awards.

As a result of the success at TheBusinessDesk.com event, it allowed the business, which is part of the KCOM Group, to celebrate the success of its innitiative – KC in the Community.

The Hull business won the Yorkshire Pride category and beat off tough competition from Create and Westfield Health with its programme, which bought all of its community and charity work together in 2010.

Community relations manager, Anna Millar, said: “To be shortlisted against two organisations that are recognised Yorkshire wide and have long-established community programmes was a great achievement for an East Yorkshire focused business with a new community programme.

“It was also great to be shortlisted in a business award programme, rather than one solely focused on community or CSR.

“I genuinely didn’t expect us to win, so when our name was announced, it was one of my personal highlights since launching KC in the Community.”

KC said it entered the awards because they are “well respected in recognising excellence in the Yorkshire business community”.

Ms Millar said: “The award categories have been well considered and focus on quality not quantity in terms of the number of categories.

“Compiling an award entry is a great way to look back on achievements and results to see just how much you’ve achieved. You have to be in it to win it.”

KC said that any award shortlisting and award win is external confirmation and reward for the commitment and hard work that its team gives to its community programme.

Ms Millar said: “It reinforced that our community programme has been developed in the right way with the community in mind and that it is delivering results. We always share community achievements and recognition with our people.”

The Masters awards will recognise success in innovation, international trade, grit, social responsibility and leadership, while new business success will also be celebrated in the Yorkshire Newcomer award.

With just six awards, the focus is on quality, not quantity and all shortlisted companies and individuals are interviewed at the event making the businesses the stars of the show. The deadline for entries is next Friday, May 24.
