Food festival creates record results

MORE people attended Leeds Food Festival this year than ever before, showcasing record-breaking attendances in the city centre.

The weekend finale of the festival, the Yorkshire Food and Drink Show earlier this month, had 60,000 visitors, up 20% from 2012.

Other events also delivered record-breaking attendances, such as the World Feast on Briggate. This saw 51,000 people on Briggate, more than any other Sunday this year, and more than an average of 33,000 during May.

Organisers have hailed the event’s move to a two week period a significant success and said the festival has made a “valuable step in positioning the city as an all year round venue for enjoying top quality food and drink.”

Lurene Joseph, chief executive of Leeds and Partners, said: “The weekend of the Yorkshire Food and Drink Show has become a staple in the city calendar and the two week expanded programme of events and activities for the Leeds Food Festival this year has delivered a real boost.”
