New Northern leader for PwC’s government and public sector team

PwC has appointed a new Northern leader for its government and public sector team.

Ian Looker will take over the role from Roger Marsh on July 1 and will be based at the firm’s Leeds office.

In his new role, he will head up the government and public service practice covering health, education and local government across the firm’s six Northern offices.

Looker has been at PwC in Leeds for 24 years spending the last 15 of those specialising in working with government and public sector clients. He is currently assurance partner and leading provider of higher education service working with a number of universities including Leeds, Sheffield and York.

He also works closely with the Department of Health.

Marsh is retiring from the firm as partner after 37 years and will take up a new role as chairman of Leeds City Region Local Enterprise Partnership on July 1.

Marsh said: “Ian brings a wealth of experience from across the sectors of government and public sector and has a great deal of enthusiasm for the role. I am confident that his experience and expertise will enable him to continue to deliver value for our public sector clients as well as broaden and deepen our relationships across the North to grow the practice.”

Looker added: “Roger has made a significant contribution to the firm over the last 37 years and has played a critical role in the development and position of the G&PS team in the region. He has become a leading voice in promoting the strengths of Yorkshire and the Humber and I look forward to evolving the work he has done to ensure that our region is connected to leading expertise nationally and globally. The team’s focus will continue to work closely with our clients to deliver value so they can navigate some of the most challenging economic conditions in a generation.”

Arif Ahmad, partner and head of the firm’s Yorkshire private business and AIM practices, will take over Marsh’s role as senior office partner.
