Plans move on at former Terry’s chocolate factory

THE redevelopment of the former Terry’s chocolate factory has moved a step closer.

TheBusinessDesk.com announced in April that the 27 acre site on Bishopthorpe Road in York was bought for an undisclosed sum by Henry Boot Developments and David Wilson Homes from GHT Developments.

Now, the City of York Council leader, James Alexander, said there is “another boost of confidence in York’s growing economy” after a crucial planning agreement has been approved.

There are plans to build 270 new homes on the South Bank end of the land to help overcome the York housing crisis and up to 200 jobs are expected to be created once work gets underway. This is hoped to happen this year.

The legal agreement covering a range of items including the approach to providing affordable housing has now been approved by the City of York Council’s planning committee.

This important planning agreement clears the way for detailed plans for stages of the scheme to be presented to the authority.

Councillor Alexander said: “The cross-party planning committee concluding the process of granting permission for the development of much needed homes on this brownfield site is very encouraging.

“It shows we can put behind us previously difficult planning challenges and be bolder about helping to resolve York’s homes crisis using brownfield sites. This is another boost of confidence in York’s growing economy.”
