WinchPharma brings in new CEO to drive growth

AMBITIOUS Yorkshire pharmaceutical business WinchPharma has recruited advertising and marketing expert Lyndon Nicholson as its new chief executive.
The Leeds-based company, which produces a range of clinical and non-rinse hygiene products that kill 99.99% of bacteria, fungi and viruses has made the move as it looks to expand into new markets.
Mr Nicholson, who still retains an executive role at content marketing agency Crowdbait and was the founder of the Article 10 group of advertising and marketing agencies, takes over from former chief executive Philip McSweeney, an experienced public healthcare manager, who becomes a non-executive director of WinchPharma.
The company, founded by executive chairman Nathan Winch in late 2010, makes the Athenian range of products that includes an alcohol free hand sanitiser that is used by the NHS and care homes, nurseries and commercial hygiene suppliers.
Other products produced by the company in both the UK and China include clinical disinfectant, non-rinse shampoo, conditioner, body wash and pet products.
WinchPharma says it experienced “strong, double-digit sales growth” in its last trading quarter and is planning to launch a range of new products early next year.
Mr Nicholson said: “The team at WinchPharma have created a product line and commercial offering that is holistically unique in the market. Working with the highly dynamic team to find new ways of raising the profile of The Athenian range, in particular the alcohol-free foam hand sanitiser that is creating so much excitement in the market and has been adopted by some NHS institutions, was simply too good an opportunity to turn down. I’m thrilled to be involved at a point where we’re in the fantastic position of having to prioritise sales enquiries.”
Nathan Winch added: “Lyndon brings new skills to the management team that will allow us to meet our aggressive growth plans for The Athenian range. We know we have a fantastic product on our hands, and the buzz around the alcohol-free hand sanitiser product is incredible. But we needed an experienced business leader to help us make the most of the opportunity and we’re excited that we now have the right person steering the company forward.”
