Super green home given go-ahead

PLANNERS have given the go-ahead to one of the greenest homes in York.
The 1,500 sq ft super-insulated, low energy, zero carbon house has been designed by York firm Mass Architecture and will be built within the grounds of an existing property in Acomb. The firm now hopes it will become a “landmark” building in York.
The low energy features within the four-bedroom home include super-insulated thick walls, integrated solar thermal panels, triple glazing, a wood burning stove and rainwater collectors – making it around 75% more energy efficient than a typical new build property.
Partner of Mass Architecture, Charlotte Harrison, said: “Using our design and planning expertise, we won the confidence of City of York Council, who we praise for their forward thinking and support of green technologies.
“We hope that the scheme will become a landmark building in York both in terms of its contemporary design and its ultra-low energy use.”
Work on site is expected to start next year.
This property in Acomb is one of several projects on which sustainability and voluntary sector specialist Mass Architecture is working on in the region.
