In Brief: Neill & Brown; Smith & Nephew; Bottle Green; Veggie Shack

NEILL & Brown Global Logistics has strengthened its European and worldwide presence with the addition of four new international partners.

New European and worldwide agency agreements are in place with logistics companies in Greece, Holland, Turkey and Japan.

The agreements will increase import business for the Hessle-based company, which will handle shipments coming to the country on behalf of its new partners.

Managing director, Colin Moody, said: “Our customers manufacture in the UK and globally, selling to multiple end users, so we are continually arranging crosstrade shipments from outside the UK to worldwide destinations.

“With customers increasingly selling their products in new markets, it is always preferable to have a local agent as it enables a superior service and also give us a lot more confidence in promoting that particular area or country.”

Neill & Brown now has 19 international partners including agents in India and the Far East, and a dedicated office in Hong Kong.

SMITH & Nephew has today said its Advanced Wound Management (AWM) business has “strongly outperformed the market”.

The global medical technology group operates this division in Hull and today announced its results for the second quarter ended June 29 2013.

The group said: “AWM had another excellent quarter. Revenue was up 10%. We strongly outperformed the global market, which we estimate grew at 2%. Excluding Healthpoint, AWM grew at 5%.”

LEEDS-based wine distributor Bottle Green has entered into its first strategic partnership with an alcoholic non-wine brand, as it continues to implement its controlled growth strategy.

Bottle Green will now distribute ready-to-drink, pre-mixed bottled cocktail brand Nuba Cocktails throughout the UK and Ireland, exclusively within the on-trade.

Bottle Green’s operations and marketing director, Richard Hitchcock, said: “Nuba Cocktails is ideally placed to benefit from this trend as it is a high quality product and one which we believe will provide the on-trade and independents with immediate and on-going commercial benefits.”

A DESIRE to bring healthier and tastier vegetarian foods to the streets of Yorkshire has seen an enterprising woman from Sheffield turn her dream of running her own business into a reality thanks to help and support from start-up programme, Ready for Business.

Passionate cook Betty Anyika from Heeley in Sheffield has taken her love of good home-style cuisine to launch a new style of food-on-the-go outlet – mobile catering outlet, Veggie Shack.

The entrepreneur worked with Ready for Business – the start-up programme delivered by the National Enterprise Network through its partner organisations across the Yorkshire region with the aim of creating 1,335 new jobs.  The scheme follows investment from the Regional Growth Fund and a partnership with Barclays to deliver intensive start-up training and support for new and developing businesses across the UK – with a particular focus on helping start-ups access business finance.
