YORKSHIRE Building Society has appointed Mark Pain as a non-executive director.

Mr Pain has 15 years’ experience at director-level roles within FTSE 100 companies across financial services and residential property sectors.

Ed Anderson, chairman of Yorkshire Building Society, said: “We are delighted to have attracted someone of Mark’s calibre to this role.

“We look forward to welcoming him to the Society and making use of his extensive financial knowledge and industry experience.”

Will DunnettWILL Dunnett has been appointed as the new managing director for First Hull Trains.

Mr Dunnett has taken up the role after almost two years as commercial director with the company.

He said: “I look forward to leading the team at First Hull Trains as we continue to improve and develop the service we offer our customers.”

Vernon Barker, FirstGroup’s UK rail managing director, said Mr Dunnett will lead the First Hull Trains team at a very important time for the business.

SALLY Harrison QC, has been elected head of chambers at St John’s Buildings, the largest barrister’s chambers in England and Wales, covering Sheffield, Chester, Liverpool, Manchester and Preston.

Her appointment follows the elevation of her predecessor, Anthony Hayden QC to the High Court (Family Division).

Miss Harrison is a matrimonial finance specialist and is acclaimed in the 2013 edition of Chambers and Partners as “a fearsome, well-polished and perfectly prepared advocate, who is widely praised for her strong commercial sense.”  She was called to the bar in 1992 and awarded silk in 2010.

She said: “I join with the whole of Chambers to wish Mr Justice Hayden well in his judicial career. I am delighted to be appointed as head of St John’s Buildings. Chambers is well placed to cope with the challenges faced by everyone involved in the delivery of quality legal services and I very much look forward to continuing to ensure the success of Chambers into the future.”

Richard HoareA LAWYER with Hull firm Andrew Jackson is amongst the first to be qualified as a family arbitrator in the Hull and Humber region.

Richard Hoare, partner and head of Andrew Jackson’s family team, is one of only a handful of family arbitrators in Yorkshire who is able to offer couples a genuine alternative to the court process.

His accreditation means he can determine the outcome of divorce settlements across several areas including finances, children’s financial claims, property ownership and also civil partnership issues. 

Mr Hoare said: “Unlike the court system, the arbitration process is much more flexible as couples choose their arbitrator – the arbitrations can fit around the needs of the couple and their families – and they decide how the arbitrations are conducted, whether in person, in written form or even over the telephone.”

INSOLVENCY firm Clough Corporate Solutions, which is part of Yorkshire-based chartered accountancy firm Clough & Company, has appointed Vicki Walker as finance brokerage partner.
 
Ms Walker previously worked for Bibby Financial Services and Abbey National. She has over 10 years of experience in asset based lending and will work alongside a team headed up by insolvency practitioner Chris Wood at the firm’s Cleckheaton offices.
 
Ms Walker said: “I’ve previously worked for several well-known lenders and finance firms so have a good understanding of the market. I was keen to work on the other side of the fence and share my experience with businesses that are considering refinancing options, which made this role hugely appealing.”
