Flagship regeneration programme reaches milestone

FINANCIAL close has been reached on the final scheme to be built under a flagship regeneration programme, which has seen a plethora of new schools developed across Hull.

The £400m Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme has seen state-of-the-art primary, secondary and specialist schools opening all over the city.

The scheme is being joint-funded by Hull City Council and the Kingswood Parks Development Company. This summer will see six schools being completed and handed over and work will start later this month on the new primary school on the Kingswood Parks development.

The brand-new two-storey building will have places for 315 primary aged pupils, a 26-place nursery and a 20-place pre-nursery.

The school is being developed by Hull Esteem Consortium, which is made up of Morgan Sindall Investments, Robertson Capital Projects and Hull-based Sewell Group. The consortium was chosen by Hull City Council as the preferred supplier for the majority of the BSF programme.

Esteem, together with Hull City Council and Partnerships for Schools, form a local education partnership (LEP) which provides project and operational management and new project development services, ensuring the BSF programme is delivered on time and on budget.

Sam Whitaker, chief executive of Hull Esteem Consortium, said: “This project in Kingswood represents a seminal moment in the BSF programme. This may be the precursor to the end of building phase of BSF but it is by no means the end at all. These schools will remain the lifeblood of a revolution in Hull; collectively we hope to have given the young people of Hull the chance at a better future, the chance at a better tomorrow.”

Mark Boothby, project manager for contractors Sewell Group, said “We are delighted to have been a part of Hull’s BSF programme and to have been responsible for delivering some really fantastic buildings with amazing facilities for future generations.”

Kingswood Parks Academy is due for completion in June 2014.
