Citu creates unique community bakery

PROPERTY developer Citu, which is working to transform the Kelham Island area of Sheffield, is to create a sales office that doubles as a community bakery and meeting space.
The working bakery, which includes a pizza oven, will be used for community gatherings and business meetings until the build is complete. A decision Leeds-based Citu said is in line with its “commitment to delivering sustainable, community-focused and digitally enabled projects”.
Aisling Ramshaw, head of sales and marketing at Citu, said: “We are incredibly passionate about the Little Kelham development and the bakery was born from a commitment to ensuring it has a community space where people can meet and simply be together.
”We expected some interest before the sales office opened, but we have been overwhelmed by the number of people getting in touch to ask for more information. It’s incredibly encouraging to see such interest – even before we have put a brick in the ground – and reminiscent of the property market before the crash.
”The unique design of the eco-friendly, low carbon, sustainable housing and commercial space in this popular area of Sheffield is really appealing to a range of buyers, and we have already received more than 250 requests for further information through our Little Kelham website and have well over 600 followers on Twitter.”
The Kelham Island quarter has experienced a period of regeneration over recent years, with an increasing number of residential and commercial properties drawing people to the area.
Aisling said: “Maintaining the existing properties on the site and showcasing Sheffield’s great heritage, as well developing sustainable and eco-friendly homes, is at the heart of the Little Kelham development. And plans for commercial and leisure options will also ensure this will be a vibrant area in itself.
“We are a sustainable developer so we have produced the bakery now and will use it for events and community projects, then once the build is complete we would very much like to see a baker move in and make use of the excellent facilities on offer.”
The development is scheduled to complete in 2016.
