Bagnalls celebrates awards for high profile projects

FAMILY-owned painting, decorating and specialist coatings contractor Bagnalls, based in Yorkshire, is celebrating a series of award wins including one for its work redecorating the Docklands Light Railway Bridge which spans the Canary Wharf complex in London.

The company, which was launched in 1875 and is headquartered in Shipley, scooped three awards at the Painting & Decorating Association (PDA) Annual Trophy awards in the Apprentice, Decorative and Industrial categories.

The wins recognised Bagnalls’ four month project on the Docklands Light Railway Bridge, which comprises 20,000 sq ft of steel work, and its highly decorative work undertaken at the University of Leeds’ Great Hall, a Grade two listed building built in 1849.

In the Apprentice category, Kris Pilmer was announced as the PDA Apprentice Winner 2013.

Stephen Bagnall, the group managing director and the fifth generation of the Bagnall family to head up the company, said: “The project wins demonstrate the extent of our painting expertise and years of experience from the highly decorative painting undertaken at the University of Leeds to the specialist industrial work carried out at Canary Wharf.

“As a company, we are all particularly proud of Kris Pilmer’s achievement. He is Bagnalls’ fifth apprentice winner at these awards and testament to our commitment to developing our trainees to a high standard.”

Bagnalls, which has turnover of £40m, employs 650 people, 47 of which are apprentices.

Mr Bagnall said: “We are committed to investing in our people and have continued to do so despite the difficult economic times.”

Bagnalls also has operations in York and Leeds, as well as a 13 branch network across the UK.

Its portfolio includes work for theatres, embassies, schools, colleges and hospitals.
