Charity Latest: JCT600; Xamax; Thomas the Baker

A 23-strong team of employees from the Bradford head office of Yorkshire motor business JCT600 is gearing up for a sponsored sky dive in a bid to raise more than £10,000 for charity.

The airborne feat is part of the company’s year-long campaign to raise money for its chosen charity for this year, the British Heart Foundation.

The JCT600 team is set to make the jump on October 5 at Grindale airfield near Bridlington. Leaping from a plane at an altitude of 12,000 ft, each sky diver will be attached to an experienced tandem parachute instructor.

XAMAX, the Yorkshire-based clothing manufacturer and work wear specialist, has worked in partnership with Helplink, Plumb Centre and Worcester Bosch to develop the ‘Tops for Teams’ initiative, which has seen the collective of businesses donate £100,000 worth of sports kits to amateur rugby league teams throughout the country.

The Tops for Teams initiative, which was arranged in partnership with BARLA (British Amateur Rugby League Association), asked that clubs of all sizes from around the country submit their name and contact details to be entered into a prize draw that could see them win a fully branded kit for their team.

The kits, which consist of sublimated shirts, shorts and socks, were awarded to more than 120 teams from clubs throughout the UK.

Managing director of Xamax, Graham Thompson, said: “When we were developing the concept for Tops for Teams, we knew that we would need some help. We can’t thank HelpLink, Plumb Centre and Worcester Bosch enough for their support. Rugby League clubs often find it hard to secure sponsorship, so this way they get good quality sponsored kits for free. It’s great to know they are going into the next season looking the part.”

UP to 35 bakers swapped rolling pins for walking boots when they took part in a charity ramble for children’s hospices.

Staff from Thomas the Baker raised more than £1,800 for three local children’s hospices with an eight mile walk around North Yorkshire.

The two and a half hour sponsored walk started out at Thomas the Baker HQ in Helmsley to raise funds for the bakery’s chosen charities Martin House Hospice, Boston Spa, Forget Me Not, Huddersfield, and Butterwick House, Middlesbrough.

All three charities provide care for children and young people with progressive life-limiting illness, as well as support for their families.
