RecyCoal relocates as it progresses with restoration scheme

A COMPANY specialising in waste coal recovery and land remediation has moved its in-house laboratory to Doncaster to support two major reclamation and regeneration schemes.

RecyCoal, which uses an environmentally beneficial process to clean-up disused coal tips, has taken a 3,617 sq ft unit at the Shaw Lane Industrial Estate  to provide test analysis for process and quality control for its restoration scheme at the former Rossington Colliery site, near Doncaster.

The firm, which is headquartered in Doncaster, has relocated its laboratory from Pinxton, Derbyshire, to the new site.

Last year, RecyCoal secured a £10m funding package to support its project to recover 13 million tonnes of coal from a former colliery spoil heap in Rossington, near Doncaster. The scheme created 70 jobs.

The 112.5 hectare site will be recovering 950,000 tonnes of coal over four years for the generation of electricity. It is to be restored to provide public open spaces with a variety of natural habitats, as well as providing allotments and allowing other land to revert to agricultural use.

Technical manager Peter Lawson said: “We wanted a centralised laboratory which would provide good road links to our operations. It will also serve our future coal recovery plans, site investigations, and the restoration scheme at the Hesley Wood spoil heap in Chapeltown near Sheffield.

“We looked at a number of premises but as a Doncaster based company, we liked the size and location of the unit at Shaw Lane. It gives us the facilities we need and is also local to our staff. It enables us to service the Rossington site very quickly.”

The Shaw Lane unit is owned and managed by London and Cambridge Properties (LCP).
