Treatment centre opens

OPERON, the Yorkshire-based facilities management, design and construction group, has started a £20m, 28-year facilities management contract for the new Oncology and Haematology Development Centre in Hull.
The £65m centre, which opened last month, will provide treatment and care for patients with cancer and blood disorders.
Operon will deliver the building and M&E maintenance, grounds maintenance, lifecycle replacement and energy management at the centre at Castle Hill Hospital in Cottingham, Hull.
Operon Catering will also provide café and retail outlets for patients, staff and the wider community.
The new hospital, which has a health centre, pharmacy and psychological support unit, will serve a wide catchment area, from Scarborough to Scunthorpe, Grimsby and Goole.
The radiotherapy department within the new centre will boast six linear accelerators, three pre-treatment suites and a dedicated patient information and support centre.
The linear accelerators will be capable of delivering state of the art radiotherapy treatment.
David Haire, director of business development and strategy for Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust, said: “The Oncology and Haematology Development Centre will be one of the leading facilities in Europe, with the local population having access to the most up to date services in a state of the art environment.
“We are looking forward to developing a strong working relationship with the Operon team who will help us deliver these services and ensure that the high standards for patients, their families and staff will be maintained.”
