News in brief: Iraq business opportunities outlined and more
THE Bradford-based Iraq Economic Development Group (IEDG) will explain the export opportunities available to local businesses at the Chamber International’s Business Advice Open Day today.
IEDG is one of a select few businesses which will make a presentation at the free event at Leeds Civic Hall which will be attended by more than 300 companies.
Chief Executive at IEDG, Steve Neely, will inform businesses how to go about overseas trade in Iraq, explain the financial support on offer and the returns on investment that are available.
He will also promote the opportunities available as the country rebuilds and how firms can overcome the credit crunch in the UK by turning to or increasing their export business.
An estimated £50bn will be spent on construction projects in Iraq in the next five years, with £114bn needed from international investment during this period.

ASDA chief executive Andy Bond has been unveiled as a speaker at the Yorkshire Finance Director of the Year Awards 2008
The awards, now established as the leading competition of its kind in Yorkshire, seek to recognise the key contribution that finance directors make to the region’s economy and reward exceptional performance.
Mr Bond, who heads the Yorkshire supermarket giant, is one of the region’s most influential senior executives who was promoted to chief executive of ASDA in 2005 after leading the expansion of the George clothing brand.

LEEDS breast cancer charity, Breast Cancer Haven is now able to let people in West Yorkshire know all about its new Haven centre on Wellington Street after a surprise donation of £10,000 worth of free outdoor advertising.
CBS Outdoor, which provides outdoor advertising solutions for clients wanting to reach people on the move, has donated a bus advertising campaign worth a massive £10,000 of free space to the new Haven to help them raise awareness of its forthcoming launch.
The cash boost was donated at a recent fundraising ball in aid of the Yorkshire charity.
Breast Cancer Haven, which plans to open opens on East Wellington Street in Leeds in October, provides free of charge support, information and complementary therapies to meet the physical and emotional needs of anyone affected by breast cancer, before, during and after their medical treatment.
The Haven is only the third in the UK to open with London and Hereford providing the only similar specialist centres in the country.
