Companies in running for major business awards

A NUMBER of Yorkshire organisations have been named as finalists in the 2008 Business Excellence Awards.

Among the three regional businesses selected as finalists is the supply division of the British Library in Wetherby – which will compete in the category for public sector bodies with 250 or more employees.

Key recovery and replacement specialist Keycare of Shipley has been named as a finalist in the private sector businesses with fewer than 250 employees, whilst Wakefield and District Housing, based in Castleford, is in the running for the charity and not-for-profit sector award.

The finalists were selected by a team of independent, specially trained assessors following a rigorous evaluation procedure covering all aspects of their business.

The winners will be announced at the annual awards ceremony at the Queens Hotel, Leeds on October 2.

Speakers at the event will include Gordon Taylor, chief executive of the Professional Footballers’ Association and Miles Templeman, director general of the Institute of Directors.

Established in 1994 in the North West, the awards were extended three years ago to cover Yorkshire and the North East.

David Teale, chief executive of award organisers North of England Excellence, said: “The awards recognise organisations committed to achieving continuous improvement in all areas of their business. It’s good to see that Yorkshire businesses aspire to such high standards of performance.”
