Tissue Regenix submits plans for new headquarters and lab

TISSUE Regenix has submitted plans to build a new headquarters and laboratory.

The York-based regenerative medical devices company wants to create a two-storey building at Northminster Business Park in York, as it continues to expand.

In its planning application to the City of York Council, the business said it is seeking to expand its York presence as a result of company growth associated with a successful fundraising of £25m to accelerate and expand development, manufacturing and commercialisation.

Launched in 2006, Tissue Regenix is an AIM listed company spun out of the University of Leeds with a strong blue-chip shareholder base. The company  operates from York and Texas in the US.

The head office is currently located in the Bio Centre at York Science Park but Tissue Regenix said it now requires “bespoke self-contained premises” that will allow the company to grow and develop its dCELL Technology platform. The dCELL patented process removes cells and other components from donor human skin tissue, allowing it to be used as a patch to place over open wounds, in a single application.

The new 11,697sq ft building would have a laboratory and administration facilities along with car parking.

The plans are due to go before the planning committee on Thursday and are recommended by for approval. The site covers 0.35 hectares and if approved, the application will be referred to the Secretary of State, as it is a green belt site.

Tissue Regenix said Northminster Business Park is an “ideal location” and said it hopes to move into the building in the last quarter of 2014, if plans go ahead.

“There is the added benefit that Northminster Business Park can provide expansion capabilities in the future to meet the needs and requirements of Tissue Regenix as it expands in the future. It is also ideally positioned from the point of view of recruitment given the strong science base for York and Leeds Universities as well as the number of large companies with subsidiaries in the locality.

“TRG expects to continue to grow as more products are brought on-stream  and the need for more interactions with the commercial and clinical community becomes key.

“Northminster Business Park is the right type of high -quality secure environment for a growth company that wishes to present a high-tech professional image to its customers, partners and investors.”

Tissue Regenix, which uses animal or human tissue to replace damaged or worn out parts of the human body, employs over 45 people. It is developing a range of medical devices to address clinical needs in cardiac, orthopaedics and wound care.
