Eastern Airways launches new route at Leeds Bradford

EASTERN Airways will expand its routes in the new year to include flights between Leeds Bradford and Southampton.

According to Leeds Bradford, Southampton is an important city linking regional businesses in Yorkshire particularly in the finance, insurance, pharmaceutical, manufacturing and construction industries.

Eastern Airways, which is headquartered at Humberside Airport, said its new service will ensure the continuation of air links between two of the UK’s largest cities and provide quick and easy access to Hampshire avoiding the need for a lengthy road or rail journey.

The news follows Flybe’s announcement of its intention to withdraw from operating this domestic route early next year.

Eastern Airways will commence operations to Southampton from Leeds Bradford from January 20, 2014, running three daily services Monday to Friday.

Tony Hallwood, Leeds Bradford Airports aviation development and marketing director, said: “We are delighted that Eastern Airways is growing their route network at Leeds Bradford. The continuation of Southampton services linking Yorkshire will be welcomed by regional businesses and cruise passengers. Leeds Bradford look forward to working with Eastern Airways to make this route a success’’

Last week, Eastern Airways, announced that it was awarded a new contract in France to provide scheduled services between Lorient and Lyon.

Founded in 1997, Eastern Airways initially developed its UK network of scheduled services around the oil and gas offshore industry in the North Sea, with flights from the east coast of England to Aberdeen. The airline is the UK’s second largest regional carrier operating more flights from Aberdeen than any other carrier. It also flies from UK airports including Birmingham, East Midlands and Newcastle.
