Prospect Estates sells Yorkshire housing site

COMMERCIAL developer Prospect Estates has today announced the sale of its Balne Mills site in Wakefield to Barratt Homes.
Balne Mills, off Silcoates Street in Wakefield was acquired by Otley-based Prospect Estates in July 2012.
The former site, previously a 1850s textile mill, was found to be structurally unstable and converting it was deemed uneconomic. Instead, Prospect Estates submitted a detailed planning consent for two, three and four-bedroom family homes.
Prospect Estates has successfully carried out full demolition of the mill and remediation to bring the brownfield and gained planning permission for 55 new homes.
The Balne Mills site has been sold to Barratt Homes Leeds. Barratt Homes is one of the UK’s largest homebuilders and has been building for over 50 years.
John Lund, managing director of Prospect Estates said: “The Balne Mills site is positioned in a very good location in Wakefield and the new development has been well-thought-out. The houses will provide quality homes for the growing number of families in the area. This has been a challenging project to work on but we are pleased to have been able to start the process in bringing this area back to life again.”
David Hudson, technical director from Barratt Homes Leeds, said: “With the recovering housing market and the excellent location of the development at Balne Mills, we are very confident that this scheme will prove very attractive to local purchasers.”
