Heavyweights to highlight investment opportunities for year ahead

A GLOBAL equities strategist with the world’s largest asset manager and two experts with opposing views on how to maximise investments are the guest speakers at an event focusing on the investment outlook for 2014.

TheBusinessDesk.com has teamed up with award-winning independent financial advisers Pearson Jones to hold the breakfast seminar on Tuesday, January 21 at the Leeds Club featuring Teun Draaisma, Managing Director and Macro Strategist, Global Equities at BlackRock, which manages $3.8 trillion of investments.

David Parkin, founder of TheBusinessDesk.com, will host the event and ‘referee’ a no-holds barred debate between two investment specialists with differing views of how to get the best returns.

The breakfast event runs from 7.30am to 9am on Tuesday, January 21.

Dave Fishwick, Head of Macro and Equities Investment at M&G Investments, which manages £242bn of investments in the UK and Europe, will discuss his ideas on market and investor behaviour while Peter Heckingbottom, Investment Director and Deputy Managing Director of Leeds-based Pearson Jones, which was founded more than 40 years ago and manages client investments of £1.8bn, will outline his investment approach.

Both will give their views on the benefits of long term investment, how timing the market can result in inferior returns, whether it is possible to predict future investment returns and the importance of understanding the impact of price-earnings ratios on expected future portfolio returns.

Pearson Jones’ specialist teams operate from four offices nationwide, providing individuals, businesses and trustees with expert bespoke advice that helps secure their financial futures.

Peter Heckingbottom of Pearson Jones said: “I am delighted to be able to participate in this event which should provide investors with an excellent opportunity to hear three different views on portfolio management. It is very unusual to combine macro-economics, behavioural finance and investment views in one slot and I think the presentations will be very stimulating to attendees.”

Teun Draaisma, Managing Director and Macro Strategist, Global Equities at BlackRock, which manages $3.8 trillion of investments, will kick-off the event with a 15-minute overview of BlackRock’s views on the global economy with some pointers as to where there might be hidden value or risk for investors in 2014.

Mr Draaisma gained headlines when he warned investors to sell equities in June 2007, just before the credit crunch hit.

The breakfast event, which runs from 7.30am to 9am on Tuesday, January 21, is aimed at business owners and directors and to register your interest please email sophie.barriere@thebusinessdesk.com with your name, job title and company.

It is being held at the Leeds Club, Albion Place, Leeds, LS1 6JL.
