Housebuilder to create 2,000 new jobs

BARRATT Homes in Yorkshire plans to launch 23 new sites this year, creating more than 2,000 jobs.
The housebuilder will launch its sites in many areas including Wakefield, Otley, Doncaster, York and Hull and said 2,950 jobs will be supported in building and selling the new homes, subject to planning permission.
A spokesperson from Barratt Homes in Yorkshire, said: “The Prime Minister has said again and again that one of the best ways to boost economic growth and get people working is through building more homes.
“The plans we have announced show exactly how that theory works in practice. We expect to launch 23 new sites this year. These will provide 1,475 desperately needed new homes for local people at a time when there is a chronic shortage of housing.
“In addition to the local construction jobs underpinned in building the new homes, the local people who move into the new housing will also spend their wages locally. This translates into a significant boost for local retailers at a time when concerns remain about the national financial picture. It’s exactly what this area needs.”
This week, housebuilder Duchy Homes has also confirmed plans to invest further in the region, after announcing details for a new residential development.
Duchy Homes has submitted plans for 14 executive houses in Braithwell, near Doncaster and follows the recent submission of proposals for nine executive detached houses on Park Drive, Sprotbrough, Doncaster.
To date, the firm has embarked on a £13.5m investment drive and Duchy Homes is expecting to be on site at Braithwell early this year. Subject to planning approval, work will start on site on Park Drive in spring, with the first homes ready for occupancy in early 2015.
