PPG announces sponsorship of multi-million pound training complex

PPG Architectural Coatings UK and Ireland has signed an exclusive naming rights deal for Huddersfield Town’s multi-million pound training complex.

The Leeds Road.site, which will now be known as PPG Canalside, has recently undergone a £3.5m renovation programme and is home to the club’s First Team and Academy, as well as being an integral sports and social hub for the local community.

PPG, which manufactures paint brands Johnstone’s and Leyland, is based at a 65 acre site in Birstall, Batley, where it has been since 1983, and employs over 1,500 people throughout the UK and Ireland.

The extensive refurbishment of PPG Canalside was led by Huddersfield Town’s chairman Dean Hoyle and boasts facilities including five full size training pitches, a 3G artificial pitch, gym, snooker club, two crown green bowling greens and a licensed bar and function room.

PPG general manager, Steve Pocock, said: “As a socially responsible business, PPG has had a long-standing commitment to the communities it operates in and this exciting agreement continues that tradition.

“From the outset, it was apparent that creating a community legacy was at the very forefront of the Club’s thinking and this was something that ties in with our approach as a business.

“This partnership provides both PPG and Huddersfield Town with a fantastic opportunity to work together to give something back to the local community, as well as our own staff, and we can’t wait to get started.”

Huddersfield Town chairman, Dean Hoyle, added: “Much like PPG, we’re an organisation that is rooted firmly in the local community and we take the responsibility that comes with that incredibly seriously.

“Creating a legacy has been integral to the Canalside project and by partnering with a business that is as socially aware as we are will ensure the facility is used by the community for years to come.

“This is a hugely exciting partnership for both parties and I know the combined teams are working on a number of exciting initiatives to be rolled out to the local community in the coming weeks and months.”
