Plans submitted for new Leeds office building

BRUNTWOOD has submitted a planning application for a new six-storey office building at Sovereign Square in Leeds.
Property group Bruntwood and Kier Property are working together to bring forward 3 Sovereign Square at the corner of Sovereign Street and Swinegate, to the south of Leeds train station. Development is already underway for a new regional office for KPMG at No. 1 Sovereign Square, with the firm expected to move to its new 61,000 sq ft home in next year.
The site is a crucial part of the Council’s plan to establish a new attractive setting for a city centre development and to form a link between the city centre/retail core and the ‘South Bank’ proposals, which include a new city park and a terminus for the HS2 eastern route.
Craig Burrow, director at Bruntwood, said: “3 Sovereign Square provides a unique opportunity to create a bespoke statement building as part of scheme that will transform this part of the city centre.
“As a local developer that has grown and developed within the city over the past several years, we cannot think of a more exciting opportunity than this.”
The application is for a 93,240 sq ft, BREEAM Excellent building.
Councillor Richard Lewis, Leeds City Council’s executive member for economy and development, said: “As the economic growth of Leeds continues to accelerate, it’s really encouraging to see Bruntwood bring forward this exciting development proposal for consideration, which will further enhance the quality of the city’s prime office space.”
