Strong start for Conlon’s new Yorkshire division as major project gets underway

CONLON Construction has launched a Yorkshire division and is more than half way through its first major project in the county, the £5.6m redevelopment of a Grade two listed building.

Appointed by Bayford Group, the multi-phase project at Bowcliffe Hall in Wetherby includes the construction of an iconic aeroplane wing-shaped conference centre and various refurbishment works across the nineteenth century building and grounds, including converting a cricket pavilion and other redundant buildings into office space and a new Drivers Club Restaurant.

Work is scheduled to be completed by August 2014.

Operating from Harrogate, the Yorkshire division of the family-run firm, established in Preston in 1961, is being headed up by Neil Conlon.

“We are delighted to have secured this landmark project,” said Neil.

“We have already undertaken a number of other projects within the county for clients including Yorkshire Museums Trust and the Duchy of Lancaster and to have been awarded this iconic, prestigious project is a positive first step to achieving our growth plans for the future in the Yorkshire region.

“With the launch of a dedicated Yorkshire division we can now make a real impact in the region and have put social sustainability at the heart of our business plan. We have pledged to spend 80 per cent of the turnover we generate in the county on buying local products and services, maximising the benefits of the ‘Yorkshire Pound’ for the local economy and our supply chain.”

Jonathan Turner from Bayford Group added: “Conlon has a strong track record in undertaking listed work and seemed like the obvious choice for us once I knew they had an office in Yorkshire. Keeping my investment local was very important to me.

“I have been very impressed with their attention to detail and their team. It is wonderful to see the vision for the project come together.”

The formation of Conlon’s Yorkshire division has created ten new jobs within the region.
