Active acquisition programme set for Dale Power

DALE Power Solutions has made its first acquisition since it completed its management buyout.

The Scarborough-headquartered firm – a service and maintenance provider with a national network of engineers as well as being a UK manufacturer and supplier of generators and UPS systems – has acquired the service, maintenance, spares and future new builds business of Swan Generators for an undisclosed sum.

The deal follows the business’s management buyout from TT electronics in August 2012 backed by mid-market private equity provider LDC.

The acquisition was completed this month and involved the transfer of Swan’s maintenance contracts and service responsibilities to Dale Power Solutions. The current service and maintenance contracts will be assimilated into Dale’s 100-strong service division and all new contracts for product will also be supplied under the Dale brand name.

Founded in 1935 as a diesel generator manufacturer, Dale Power Solutions has since grown into a manufacturer of both generators and Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems that manage and provide back-up electricity and can ensure a smooth transition between mains and generator power and is a major service and maintenance business for these products. It manufactures generators at its two factories in Scarborough that are used to provide emergency power to businesses such as hospitals and data centres when mains electricity is lost.

Denzil Lee, Dale’s chairman, said: “Since the buyout the company has been restructured and implemented a number of new initiatives in terms of IT systems, salesforce and manufacturing. It is now in a position to efficiently assimilate new development opportunities provided by acquisition as well as its plans for organic growth. Swan is the first of an active programme of acquisition on which the company is embarking.”

Last year, the company created a sales office in Dubai to cover expansion in the Middle East. It has also opened a new facility in Hemel Hempstead this year to manage its 40-strong southern service operations.

Tim Wilkins, chief executive, said: “Dale Power Solutions are one of the largest, dedicated secure power providers in the UK, with over 100 service personnel. We are pleased to be further expanding our national network of facilities. The UK is one of our most important markets, and this expansion will help Dale Power Solutions in our mission to become the number one service and maintenance provider of standby power and power generation systems.”

The office move follows a year of significant growth in which the company expanded its team to almost 250 employees.
