Prometheus progress fuels demand at The Deep

A STATESIDE success story which provides enterprise software for some of the biggest companies in the world has expanded in Hull.

Prometheus Group arrived at The Deep, in Hull, just over two years ago, completing a move into a 250 sq ft office. Continuing expansion has seen the team expand to 11, now occupying 1,000 sq ft.

Rick Taylor, director of professional services at American-owned Prometheus, said the group’s rapid growth owes much to being able to occupy more space at just the right time.

He said: “We had an office in Amsterdam but we decided that the UK was a better place for our EU operations. I was charged with reorganising our disparate EU operations and when I looked at The Deep in December 2011 I was a one-man show but needed to be up and running for the start of 2012.

“We expanded from 250 sq ft to 500, then 500 with an adjoining office of 250 sq ft and now 1,000. The flexibility of The Deep has enabled us to expand at exactly the right time for our business needs.”

Freya Cross, business and corporate manager at The Deep said: “For such a well-positioned business centre it’s remarkable that people know little about what goes on here, but our tenants employ more than 250 people between them.

“Some of them are sizeable concerns and others are rapidly growing companies like Prometheus, who saw The Deep as the ideal place to base their UK operation and have expanded quickly.”

A re-location by the Children and Family Court Advisory and Support Service – Cafcass – will make available 4,000 sq ft for occupancy from July.

Paul White, associate director for Office, Retail and Leisure at commercial property agents Garness Jones, said he expects strong interest in the space.

“The Deep Business Centre really does occupy one of the most striking locations in our region, on the banks of the Humber and right next to The Deep aquarium,” he said.

“The opportunity has only arisen because, as a public body, Cafcass has to move into a Government-owned property. Generally, when tenants settle in at The Deep they don’t want to leave.”

The business centre is home to global information technology, consulting and outsourcing company Wipro, who were its first tenants in 2001, ABB Engineering Services and provider of brownfield services to the oil and gas industry, Wood Group PSN.
