Leeds United issued winding-up petition

SPORT Capital has issued Leeds United with a winding-up petition, it is understood.

The company is owed around £1m, money which was given to the club as a loan.

According to BBC Sport, the date for repayment has been missed and the petition is set to be considered at a hearing next month.

Sport Capital’s bid to takeover Leeds United fell through in January before Massimo Cellino, who also owns the Sardian club Cagliari, completed the deal to buy the Elland Road club.

The news marks the second time this year that Leeds United has been issued with a winding-up petition.

Former sponsor Andrew Flowers issued one but withdrew it once Italian Cellino repaid the £1.5m owed.
