 Wakefield Business Conference

As a key date in the diary for 2014, Wakefield Business Week conference (WBC) on Wednesday 4th June at Cedar Court Hotel is a celebration of all things great in business throughout Wakefield, with over 50 exhibitors in the exhibition hall and world renowned key speakers, it’s not one to miss.

Key speakers include Founder of the Big Issue, John Bird and Coffee Nation giant Martyn Dawes.

John was brought up in an orphanage, served time in a young offenders institute and often slept rough as one of London’s homeless.

He founded The Big Issue back in 1991 in response to the growing number of rough sleepers on the streets of London. The Big Issue is now published in dozens of countries throughout the world – always with the same aims of helping those struggling for a break in society.

Martyn is one of the UK’s most successful consumer products entrepreneurs of the last 10 years. He founded Coffee Nation in the late ‘90’s and revolutionised coffee on the go. He developed the business to be the UK’s leading brand of takeaway coffee.

Coffee Nation has been ranked year after year as one of the UK’s fastest growing private companies. Martyn has been a recipient of the Sunday Times Fast Track Innovation Award and is also an Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award Winner for Consumer Products.

WBC networking partners 4Networking and The Business Network will provide the liveliest breakfast and biggest lunchtime network event in the district.

WBC will also offer clinics to mend various business ills including; Inside the Head of a Journalist by Mark Bradley, Editor of Wakefield Express; The power of networking by Caroline Andrew-Johnstone, Owner of FASPrint; Getting your unfair share of business by Richard Jones of Fantastic Media; Cloud IT for business by Simon Hammond of Servatech and a Funding and Finance Café hosted by Wakefield Business Support Programme including advisors from various companies.

The popular and ferocious 20 Slides in 20 Seconds returns again in 2014 to the WBC with Claire Harper of IndiaCoCo covering Pinterest; Ali Gordon of The Awakening Media on Facebook; Dan Conboy of Statement on Twitter and Judy Parsons of Build Your Perfect Tribe on LinkedIn.

Four of the district’s heavyweight sector leaders will take to the stage at WBC as the State of the District Panel.

The panel includes Chief Executive of Wakefield Council, Joanne Roney; Founder of Really Useful Products, Mike Pickles; Founder and CEO of Sarcophagus, Graham Howarth; Chadwick Lawrence Partner, Tim Welton.

The Panel will be chaired by Managing Director of Johnston Press, Helen Oldham who will ask each leader to give their view of the state of the district in their sector before opening up to the floor for a question and answer session.
