Contractor building for future following deal

A BUILDING contractor has completed projects valued at more than £5m over the past 12 months and has high hopes for the future.
L Harrison & Co, based in Eastoft, near Scunthorpe, was acquired by Wakefield-based developer Orion Developments last year. The company said it had secured ongoing and future contracts valued at £1.7m.
Completed work includes two new build projects in Scunthorpe: a 24,000 sq ft factory and office complex for engineering material stockholders, Locate Supplies, and a 100,000 sq ft office, warehouse, storage and distribution centre for and chilled food suppliers FJG Property.
Harrison also designed and constructed two agricultural projects including a 24,000 sq ft building near Grimsby comprising a grain drying and storage unit complete with an indoor loading facility for Grainsby Farms, and a 20,000 sq ft complex comprising grain drying and storage facilities and refrigerated potato storage facilities in Winteringham, near Scunthorpe, for A F Dowsons & Son.
The company also completely refurbished retail premises in Epworth, near Doncaster, and built a storage yard and road with drainage for Sandtoft Roof Tiles.
Harrison’s ongoing contracts include a 23,500 sq ft factory and office premises in Brigg, North Lincolnshire, for coffee roaster and packaging suppliers, Lincoln & York; a 20,000 sq ft factory with laboratory and staff welfare facilities near Selby for Gel Systems, a global supplier and developer of gelling agents and stabilisers; and a concrete apron and loading dock at the new Scunthorpe premises of specialist tyre wholesalers, R H Claydon.
Harrison started trading in 1946 when Leonard Harrison began constructing agricultural buildings for businesses in the local area and was later joined by his brother Eric Harrison.
Family members Jim and Gordon Harrison and Margaret Easton joined the company in the 1960s and Harrison established a reputation for design, construction and civil engineering work.
Orion Developments acquired Harrison in October 2007 with Tim Lumb, Chris Weston and Andrew Largent from Orion joining the existing management team.
