Going green goes online

BUSINESSES throughout the region are being invited to join the world’s first virtual climate conference.
Klima 2008/Climate 2008, which starts on November 3, is completely free of charge and will enable visitors to interact, access comment and discuss a wide range of research on climate change from an environmental, social, economic and policy perspective.
It is expected to attract more than one million on-line visitors during the five day period from businesses, governments, universities, research agencies and schools. More than 72 nations will be represented at the event.
The Hamburg University of Applies Sciences organised event is being by Yorkshire based Emerald Group Publishing – a leading publisher of management research.
Other partners include the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), and the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
UNESCO recently declared the event to be a project of the United Nations Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (2005 to 2014).
John Peters, chief executive of Emerald, said: “We are delighted to support this innovative event which will appeal to audiences throughout the world.
“Climate change is a matter of concern to us all and as part of the sponsorship we will be presenting an award for the best research paper with the aim of encouraging more scientists and doctoral students to publish the results of their research in this field.”
