Glamping entrepreneur continues to roll out business

AN ENTREPRENEUR behind a thriving luxury camping business has plans to continue rolling out his concept with the launch of further new sites next year.
Tom Sterne, the former Yorkshire property surveyor, launched his glamping enterprise, Yurtshire, two years ago. This summer, he’s opened two new sites, but now, as popularity soars, he is putting plans in place to launch another two or three next year.
“We’re getting busier and busier,” Sterne said.
“There’s been a demand for people holidaying in the UK and stay-cations have really taken off, with glamping on the rise, too.
“The plan is to keep on opening new sites. I believe it is the most beautiful form of glamping.”
Sterne said he plans to open these primarily in the north but has ambitions to become a more nationwide business.
Yurtshire currently has three sites: Camp Hill site in Kirklington, North Yorkshire and Umberslade Park, Warwickshire and Newburgh Priory, North Yorkshire are the latest locations to launch.
There are three yurts on each site and Sterne has invested around £40,000 per site on top of an investment from the land owner. Each site is a joint partnership between Sterne and the land owner.
Sterne said he was given the inspiration to set up Yurtshire following a safari trip to the Masai Mara in Kenya.
He said they mastered the art of luxury camping on safari holidays with some amazing five star tented lodges. He fell in love with the yurts and thought they were they would be perfect for the UK market.
