City centre office block gets green light

PLANNING permission has been granted for 3 Sovereign Square.

Once complete, the six-storey building will offer 93,240 sq ft of BREEAM Excellent, grade A space.

The developers, Bruntwood and Kier Property, are out to tender and expect to start on site at the end of the year for an 18 month build time.

Sitting to the south of Leeds train station on the corner of Swinegate and Sovereign Street, the site is currently being operated as a car park. Coupled with the completion of KPMG’s new headquarters this summer and new public realm, 3 Sovereign Square will contribute towards the transformation of this business location.

Regional landlord and developer Bruntwood has also indicated that it is seeking to start on the redevelopment of the 120,000 sq ft City House sitting above Leeds train station.

Craig Burrow, director at Bruntwood, said: “We’re really pleased the Sovereign Square scheme got the go ahead and we are looking forward to starting on site at the end of the year. We’ve got significant interest in the scheme and office space is available from 16,000 to 80,000 sq ft.”

Councillor James McKenna, chair of the City Plans Panel, added: “It is great to see the development of this area coming to fruition. Furthermore, we’re pleased with the way this building has been presented and feel it will be a strong addition to Sovereign Square development as a whole. It will be a fantastic space for everyone in Leeds to enjoy.”
