Work starts on phase 2 of Hungate scheme

CONSTRUCTION has started on nearly 200 homes at Hungate as the £150m residential led mixed-use development within the city of York’s historic walls takes a step forward.

The 195 homes were granted detailed planning permission earlier this year in the second phase of the development.

The homes will be delivered by Hungate Regeneration, a joint venture between Lend Lease, the integrated property and infrastructure group, and long-established Yorkshire-based property investment and development group Evans.

The riverside homes will be built as part of a major regeneration within the city’s walls and will include retail and commercial space alongside the 720 new homes.
It will also see 150 jobs created during construction for the local community.

Richard Cook, Lend Lease’s head of residential, said: “The start of construction on these homes marks an exciting step in the wider regeneration of the area. York is experiencing some exciting changes and we have been working closely with the City of York Council as we create what we hope will be a highly sought after area of the city to live in and visit.”

Roderick Evans, managing director of Evans Property Group, added: “As long-term investors in York we are delighted to be working in partnership with Lend Lease to deliver this major scheme. As well as providing further high quality homes in the heart of this historic city, the development of phase 2 will also see the creation of new jobs.”
