Morrisons launches new initiative to win back shoppers

MORRISONS is on a mission to capture more shoppers, by extending opening hours at nearly half of its stores.
The struggling Bradford supermarket is to extend opening hours to 6am to 11pm at 230 of its 490 shops, meaning stores will be open for 1,600 more hours per week.
Research conducted amongst shoppers at Morrisons over the past two years has shown that customers would like to see stores open longer, as well as having more consistent opening times throughout the week.
Mark Harrison, Morrisons group retail director, said: “At Morrisons we are committed to staying in tune with our customer’s changing needs and it is clear from our research that shoppers’ lifestyles are changing with people working longer hours or working different shifts.”
Chief executive of Morrisons, Dalton Philips, is under pressure to reverse the slide in sales after the group announced it had slumped to a £176m loss last year.
Over the past year, the supermarket has made its way into the headlines on numerous occasions.
The group revealed it was slashing prices on more than a thousand of its products in a bid to win back customers, it sold its baby products retailer Kiddicare for £2m, a former tesco chief was named as the new chairman and perhaps most controversial of all, Sir Ken Morrison dismissed a recovery plan by Dalton Philips at its AGM as bull***t.
