Passenger numbers soar at Leeds-Bradford

LEEDS-BRADFORD is the fastest growing of the top 15 airports in the country according to new figures published this morning.

The airport handled 352,175 passengers in July, an 11% rise compared to the same month last year.

It is another significant milestone for the airport which has seen growth during a turbulent period for the aviation industry.

Tony Hallwood, commercial and aviation development director at Leeds-Bradford, said: “LBA is very pleased to be one of the UK’s fastest growing airports and bucking the national trend.

“Our growth to 76 destinations in 2010 and continued expansion by our airline partners means that we can look forward to 2011 with confidence “.

Earlier this year Ryanair opened a base at Leeds-Bradford and subsequently announced it was expanding its winter schedule from three routes to 13.

Yorkshire-based Jet2.com has also increased its offering with new flights to Madeira and Bodrum due to start next year.

The airport terminal is to undergo a major refurbishment and expansion through a £28m development scheme which is due to start in spring 2011.
