Top Leeds restaurants named

THE top restaurants in Leeds have been honoured at an awards ceremony which recognised the exceptional culinary standards on offer in the city.
Chino Latino, located within Park Plaza, scooped the coveted Leeds Restaurant Association award for 2008 Best Restaurant.
The Ellington was named as Best Newcomer, while Casa Mia took the accolade for Best Family Restaurant.
Hansa Dhabi, of Hansa’s was recognised with the coveted Outstanding Contribution award.
The event, held at the Queens Hotel, was attended by more than 370 members of the Leeds’ restaurant scene with 80 establishments vying for an award.
Restaurant Bar and Grill picked up Best Alfresco, while Best Business Lunch went to Sous Le Nez and Malmaison claimed Best Wine List.
Chino Latino’s Daniel Atkins, said, “The Leeds Restaurant Awards are the most coveted food honours the city has to offer, and it means a great deal to myself and all the staff at Chino Latino to be recognised in this way. We faced some really stiff competition this year; this is testament to Leeds’ burgeoning restaurant scene.”
As well as the judged categories, diners themselves dished out award wins by casting more than 5,000 votes both online and via voting cards.
Casa Mia’s Francesco Mazzella, said: “The public vote is a privilege to win and we are especially pleased to win the Best Family Restaurant award, as in Italy the family is the centre of any great dining experience.”
Bibis scooped Best Italian Restaurant. Brett’s Fish Restaurant won Best Fish & Chip Restaurant, whilst Best Indian restaurant went to Aagrah, with the Olive Tree taking home the Best Mediterranean accolade.
Best Oriental Restaurant went to Zen Rendezvous while best Service was awarded to Harvey Nichols. Anthony Flinn was named as Best Chef while Martin Pickles, of the Flying Pizza, was awarded Best Front of House.
The Best Suburban Restaurant was Leeds 17 in Alwoodley.
