Upturn in Yorkshire property market sees removals firm tackle busiest summer in seven years

REMOVALS and Storage firm McCarthy’s is celebrating a record summer on the back of an upturn in the Yorkshire property market.

Over the traditionally most active months of the year for home-moving – June, July and August – Leeds-based McCarthy’s home removals side of the business saw a 50% increase in bookings compared to the same period in 2013.

The company managed 1,100 moves over the three months, and has also seen a boom in business at its self-storage units.

Mike McCarthy, managing director, said: “We’ve not only had a record summer for moves but also for storage, which has been operating at 98% capacity during the summer. It’s a very promising sign that the housing market in the region is continuing to flourish and that consumer confidence is building. It’s certainly been our busiest summer in terms of removals since 2007.”

Trading since 1970, McCarthy’s is a family business primarily known for its private and commercial removals. Operating across Yorkshire, its head office is based on Meanwood Road, Leeds, where there is also a 150,000 sq ft self-storage facility. The company also has a 300-room self-storage facility for homeowners and businesses in Harrogate. In addition, McCarthy’s offers a range of business services including archived storage and confidential document shredding.
