Riverside office refurb underway

THE £500,000 refurbishment of Riverside House in Hull is underway.

Contractors have begun work on the three-storey office building, which is set to be shipping, transport and insurance law firm Myton Law’s new offices.

Riverside House is adjacent to the Fruit Market, which is a key regeneration area within Hull’s City Plan, close to the marina and The Deep and looks out over the Humber.  Restoration of the 4,841 sq ft building is expected to take four months.

Myton Law appointed BSB Architecture, the Hull-based architects and Myton Law’s fellow tenants at The Deep Business Centre, to undertake the design work and project management.

Now, following architectural and interior design, preparatory works, planning approvals and tendering, the project team has been commissioned, including main contractor S Voase Builders, mechanical and electrical engineers Sutcliffe Consulting, quantity surveyor Richard Walker and structural engineers Mason Clark.

“It is very exciting indeed to have the main works underway,” said Myton Law’s John Habergham.  “After a rigorous tendering process, we are delighted to have such a strong team on board and it is great that they are also fellow Hull businesses.”

Myton Law’s Scott Yates added: “The choice of Riverside House, with its maritime links and location on the Humber, and our commitment to investing in its sympathetic restoration reflect who we are as a law firm and as individuals.  Taking a new-build or out of town office unit might have been a quicker option, but we wanted a distinctive building in the heart of the city.”

Riverside House on Nelson Street once served as the offices for the Anglo Soviet Shipping Company and dates back to the 1800s.  However, it had been empty for a number of years.

“It is tremendous to be part of such a high profile, up and coming area of our city,” added Myton Law’s Iain Butterworth.  “We have taken time to ensure our plans will make a positive contribution to the regeneration of this part of Hull’s river front.  Our objective is to retain the character of the building, but also create a working environment for a modern, progressive law firm.”

It is anticipated that the refurbishment will be complete at the end of January. The work is being funded from Myton Law’s company reserves.
