Jobs boost for South Yorkshire as Amazon announces workforce expansion plans

ONLINE retail giant Amazon has said it is to create another 1,000 jobs at its eight ‘fulfilment centres’ in the UK, including its base at Doncaster.
The firm currently employs 6,000 staff in the UK and has created more than 2,000 jobs over the last two years.
No regional breakdown of the newly announced jobs has been provided.
The firm said that the permanent roles will start on an average of £7.39 per hour and earn up to £8.90 per hour after two years.
After a year at Amazon all full-time staff receive stock grants, which over the past five years have added an average of 12% to annual base pay.
As well as Doncaster, the announcement affects Dunfermline, Gourock, Hemel Hempstead, Milton Keynes, Peterborough, Rugeley and Swansea Bay.
