In brief: DLA scoops award; Hull telecom firm boosts numbers

LAWYERS from the Leeds and Sheffield offices of DLA Piper scooped the consultant of the year title at a regional property awards ceremony held at the Royal Armouries in Leeds.

The Yorkshire and North East Property awards recognise the work of leading property professionals across the region and DLA Piper’s real estate team won the accolade based on its role in a number of the year’s high profile transactions, including the sales of Doncaster Interchange and Keepmoat.

The ceremony, organised by English Partners and Property Week Magazine, recognised achievements from July 2007 to July 2008, and was attended by more than 400 of the region’s most influential decision makers in the real estate community.

HULL firm Axis Telecom has announced it is increasing its staffing levels by more than a third.

The company, based in Europa House in Ferensway, is to open a new call centre in the city next month.

The new centre, on Lowgate, will immediately create about 70 jobs, with more set to be created next year.

It will bring the total number of employees at the telephone and broadband supplier to about 250 when it opens on December 15.

MUTUAL organisations in the financial services sector including Building Societies and Mutual Insurers will be joining organisations from across the health, education and retail sectors on December 4 in the first national event to bring together organisations owned by members and not shareholders.

The Rt Hon Hazel Blears MP, Secretary of State For Communities will address the Mutual Forum which will include representatives from the mutual financial services sector, employee-owned organisations, foundation trusts, cooperatives and the football supporter trusts.

The first national event of its kind will be held at the Emirates Stadium in London and the agenda will look at the value of the mutual economy to the UK, the growing relevance of member-owned organisations and their role in the modern community and in providing choice, competition and involvement to the consumer.
