Healthcare expansion sees new jobs for Sheffield

A SPECIALIST support organisation for people with brain injuries has expanded into Yorkshire creating 140 new jobs.

Neuro Partners has moved into The Quadrant in Sheffield as part of an expansion programme that will see the firm open one office per region per year over the next 10 years.

Around 70 new positions will be filled over the next 12 months with staff numbers expected to double “in time”.

Jonathan Wade, managing director at Neuro Partners, said that the firm had decided to open in Yorkshire after their work in the Tees Valley and Cumbria attracted referrals from across the region.

“The NHS provides some of the best brain injury rehabilitation in the world – particularly at the crisis medical phase,” he said.

“There is also considerable support at the other end of the pathway to help patients get back to work through the outstanding work of disability services such as Jobcentre Plus and Access to Work.”

He continued: “However, the recovery and support required by patients in between stages can take years and statutory services don’t have the capacity to deliver long term specialist care as there are always new cases needing to be prioritised.

“Such people end up with generic support that often does not always understand or deal with the complexity of brain injury. Therefore, there is a clear gap in the market that Neuro Partners has filled successfully in two regions to date.”

The firm’s move to Yorkshire was aided by both Business Link Yorkshire and Creativesheffield.

James Wilson, investment manager at Creativesheffield, explained that Neuro Partners’ expansion was a fantastic investment for Sheffield. He also praised Business Link Yorkshire’s brokerage.

“Business Link Yorkshire is opening doors for our organisation, helping us to understand the structure of statutory and private organisations within the region and how to reach them,” he added.

“It also provided insight to the support and advice it can give us in the future to stimulate our growth in the healthcare sector. We look forward to working with them in the future.”

Around one million people attend hospital each year in the UK as a result of some form of trauma head injury.

Every year, out of every 100,000 of the population, between 10 and 15 people suffer a severe head injury, 15 to 20 people suffer a moderate head injury, and between 250 and 300 people a mild head injury.

This means in the 2.2 million people in the North East of England alone, each year there are about 6,600 new cases, a growing population of people requiring services. Of these, only about 15% will return to work within five years.

Road traffic accidents account for 40% to 50% of all injuries, and are most commonly associated with severe injuries.

At any one time around 10 million people each year in the UK are living with neurological conditions.

Each year a further 600,000 (1% of population) are diagnosed with a lasting neurological condition.
