Genus Law snaps up rival

A YORKSHIRE law firm has completed the acquisition of a rival as part of its ambitious growth strategy.

Leeds-headquartered Genus Law has bought boutique employment law firm Pharos Legal for an undisclosed sum.

Pharos’ senior employment solicitor Natalie Saunders and associate solicitor Emma Hammond have now joined the Thorpe Park Business Park-based company, which was formerly known as Brilliant Law.

Saunders is now heading up Genus Law’s employment law team.

Judit Petho, Genus Law’s chief executive, said that their appointments consolidate the firm’s employment law credentials.

She explained: “We intend to become the go-to practice when it comes to corporate law for businesses in Yorkshire and beyond.

“Our on-going expansion is now complemented by Natalie Saunders and Emma Hammond joining our employment law team.

“In particular, the strong leadership and dynamism Natalie brings will help to drive forward our strategy for growth, both in the Yorkshire region and nationally.

“The skills they will both bring to our modern practice perfectly combine with Genus Law’s growing team of commercial lawyers to deliver the dynamic and transparent customer service we’re extremely proud of.”

Formed under the SRA-regulated Alternative Business Structure (ABS) for law practices, Genus Law is a new kind of corporate law firm, structured as a company and not a partnership.

Petho added: “We’ve witnessed an increasing amount of activity throughout 2014 – particularly among small and medium-sized businesses.

“We anticipate that this will continue for the foreseeable future and we’re now in the best possible position to assist.”
