Social enterprise calls on businesses for support

A SOCIAL enterprise which aims to help turn around the lives of children at risk of re-offending and those classed as NEETs (Not in Education Employment or Training) is calling on local businesses to support it.

Global Diversity Positive Action (GDPA) was set up by businesswoman Sharon Jandu and recently opened the GDPA Microsoft Creative & Technology Hub in Huddersfield to act as a place for youngsters to go to express their creative talents after school and over the weekend. It aims to create a world-class environment which will not only motivate and engage with the youngsters, but also act as a catalyst to entice other organisations to support the enterprise facility of the project.

Now, GDPA wants more businesses to get involved.

Jandu said: “We use a lot of interventions such as presentations from inspirational business speakers, positive thinking, and sessions on respect, values and  responsibility to ensure the young people are ready for employment.

“Our work equips them with  the skills to be part of a workforce.

“GDPA is always looking for support from employers, professionals and business people. Our students who are on the programme are keen to interact directly  with  job providers who can tell them what they are looking for. This kind of interaction means individuals have access to information and an insight so that their questions are answered. Employers can also seek out potential employees this way.

“GDPA are also keen to pair up our students with business/professional mentors, so we are always looking for volunteers.”
