In Brief: Oval positive, BrightHouse plans expansion, and more

OVAL, the insurance broker with offices in Huddersfield, Leeds, Sheffield and Wakefield, increased its turnover by  38% to £83m between June 2007 and May 2008.

The firm made 12 acquistions in the year, including Hart Owen, based in Sheffield, in October 2007.

Pre-tax profit increased by 16% to £4.6m.

RETAILER BrightHouse hopes to double the size of its operation in Yorkshire,

The national group, which sells home electronic and domestic appliances, household furniture and related products, wants to add to its 17 stores in the region.

The retailer offers a rent-to-buy model to its customers.

THE inaugural Business Tourism Conference for Yorkshire’s business tourism sector has been staged by Yorkshire Tourist Board (YTB) to help regional businesses increase revenue from meetings and conferences.

The event, held at the National Railway Museum in York, was funded by Yorkshire Forward, the regional development agency, and has been hailed a great success by attendees.

Representatives from the region’s conference venues, attractions and hotels with conference facilities, received tips from various industry professionals, forged partnerships with other businesses in the region and had insight into how Yorkshire’s conference bureaux can help support them promote and develop their offer.
