Law firm hits the right note to support Iceland’s growth

LEEDS law firm Gordons has joined a select group that has included Kerry Katona, Stacey Solomon and Peter Andre – it has been chosen to support Iceland’s ambitious growth plans.

While the singers-turned-reality TV stars relied on their public appeal as they fronted advertising campaigns for the supermarket group, Gordons will calling on its retail experience to provide the backing track to its advice on property and commercial matters.

Iceland, which is still led by Huddersfield-born founder Malcolm Walker, is opening up to 40 stores in the current financial year, creating up to 1,250 jobs. The retailer currently has 844 stores and annual sales of £2.7bn.

Tarsem Dhaliwal, Iceland’s chief financial officer, said: “We were impressed by the firm’s knowledge and experience within the retail sector, which was augmented by recommendations made by other retailers.

“Iceland has ambitious growth plans, so it is important we partner with lawyers who will enable us to achieve them quickly. Gordons have already demonstrated how they bring commercial acumen and pace to the services they deliver.”

Gordons, which has offices in Leeds, Bradford and London, has a long list of retail clients, which includes Card Factory, Morrisons, B&M, Poundworld and The West Cornwall Pasty Company.

Paul Ayre, Gordons managing partner, said: “We’re delighted to be working with Iceland. It’s a really well-run, dynamic retailer and we like their partnering approach. We represent lots of retailers, so we understand what’s important to them.”
