Name change for architect SMC

THE SMC Group, which has an office in Yorkshire and is one of the largest architecture practices in the United Kingdom, is to change its name to the Archial Group.

The group’s northern region includes Leeds-based practice SMC Gower; Warwick-based practice SMC Corstorphine & Wright; Birmingham and Newcastle’s SMC Parr; and Liverpool and Manchester’s SMC DTR:UK. All will be known as Archial Architects if the name change is approved at an extraordinary general meeting on January 5.

The group said the change was part of a “year-long consolidation process” to “improve the resilience of the business”.

Philip Lees, SMC’s northern region chairman, said: “This is an exciting development for the company. Our ability to share the diverse skills and resources we have throughout our network of offices will provide us with the opportunity to provide an even higher level of service to all of our clients.

“With the hundreds of highly creative architects and designers within the Group, I am very optimistic about the future of the Archial Group.

“The SMC Group is already one of the largest and most successful architectural companies in northern England, as well as the rest of the UK, and the improvements to our existing working practices that will accompany this name change will benefit all of the company’s stakeholders.”
